Dear Parent / Guardian:
This year, Park West School will be hosting its first ever Parents as Career Coaches for parents of students in grades 7 – 9. Parents as Career Coaches is a program sponsored by the Department of Education at no cost to you. This program better equips parents to support their children in making informed and successful education and career choices.
As parents, you are concerned about your child’s future. Basically, we want them to make the types of decisions which will result in happiness and success. While it may be years before they enter the workforce, it is important for them to begin considering what careers might make them happy. Children who have some idea of the direction they might go in the future can then begin to research these possibilities and take the types of courses which will keep career options open.
Parents as Career Coaches (Junior High) is designed to assist parents to use the skills they already have to assist in their child’s career journey. This one evening program will provide parents with:
· information on the new world of work and what to expect in the career journey
· suggestions and tools to help their child begin to identify their interests (what makes them happy) and skills
· information and resources to assist their child in exploring various careers
Sincerely,
Tara Aucoin
