Park
West School
Mr. D. Carter, Principal Ms. M. Chiasson, Vice Principal Mr. B. Melanson, Vice Principal
Dear Park West Parents and Guardians:
We recently received some good news! Park West
School is receiving two additional teachers to alleviate the large class sizes
at the grades primary to three levels.
This is a result of the Nova Scotia government’s
recent initiative to reduce class sizes in grades primary to three to 25 or
less.
To accommodate the two new teachers and classes, and
to reduce class sizes, will mean some changes for staff and students at our
school.
Some classes will have to be reconfigured, some
teachers assigned to new grades, and some students moved to new classes. The addition of two teachers means we are
able to eliminate all combined-grade classes and reduce many class sizes.
Our new configuration will look like this:
3 Grade Primary classes
3 Grade One classes
3 Grade Two classes
3 Grade Three classes
3 Grade Four classes
3 Grade Five classes
3 Grade Six classes
Teachers and administration will collaborate to
re-assign students to new classes when necessary. We will use the same criteria for placing
students which we use every spring when designing classes for the next school
year. We will give consideration to
gender, learning styles, socialization, and learning opportunities.
If your child will be affected by this change we
will make personal contact with you in the next few days to inform you of
his/her new placement. We aim to have
all changes made and new classes up and running on Monday, October 22.
We appreciate these necessary changes are difficult. However, as teachers and caregivers we know
the long term benefits of these changes.
We seek your support in making this transition a
positive experience for your child.
Thank you for your support, patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Park West Admin Team
(Mr. Carter, Ms. Chiasson, Mr. Melanson)
